Q: What types of counseling services does the DPOCC provide?
A: The DPOCC provides: individual, family, career and group counseling services.

Q: Do I have to be a disabled police officer to be able to use DPOCC counseling services?
A: No, DPOCC counseling services are available to any officer whether they are retired on a disability or a regular retirement. We also provide counseling to any officers who are active duty that request it.

Q: Are DPOCC counseling services only for the officer himself/herself?
A: No. If the counselor or the officer determine that it would be helpful to the process to have a spouse/friend or family member involved, that is perfectly acceptable.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of counseling sessions that are available to an individual?
A: No.

Q: Is drug or alcohol counseling available from the DPOCC?
A: The DPOCC would help the client in this case by referring them to a organization or facility specializing in substance abuse.

Q: Is there a charge for DPOCC Counseling services or do you accept insurance?
A: All DPOCC counseling services are free of charge and we do not submit claims to any insurance company.

Q: If I am an active officer will the counseling sessions be totally confidential and not released to my department.
A: Absolutely the sessions would be confidential and would not be shared with your department, whether you are an active or retired officer.

Q: Where are your counseling centers? Do you have one in every state?
A: Since we are a national organization we provide anyone the opportunity of our counseling services, regardless of where they are located. However, as we logistically and financially can not afford to have a physical presence in every state the majority of our counseling services are provided telephonically. We have been doing this for a number of years and have received positive feedback from our clients as it often relieves them of having to make travel or babysitter arrangements.

Q. Are these counseling services only available to police officers?
A. No, we provide the counseling services for all law enforcement officers and correctional officers, whether they are state, county, city or federal officers.

Q. What qualifications to the counselors have?
A. All of the DPOCC Counselors are retired police officers with graduate degree in the mental health field.
